Just Three Tips with Emily Bezak: Green Is Definitely My Color
--
By: Emily Bezak
Guess what? I’m a columnist.
I’ve wanted to write a column ever since I watched Carrie Bradshaw on Sex & the City. As I rewatched the series in quarantine, I couldn’t help but wonder… Maybe I can write my own column?
Today my first column hit inboxes of marketers all over the Steel City. I’m a bundle of nerves, but I couldn’t be more proud of my first attempt. It’s actually much more difficult to craft a column than I expected, and I think I’ll make that a blog post for another day.
Until then, here’s an excerpt lifted from my column and the information to subscribe to the full publication. This month’s theme is all things green and eco-friendly in honor of Earth Day.
Let’s jump in.
An Excerpt From My Just Three Tips with Emily Bezak Column
I pitched this column — my first. Where do I get the nerve? I guess you could say I’ve been a fierce supporter of making your own destiny, forging your own path, living your truth. All that and a bag of chips, kids. And Marketing Pittsburgh is generous to at least humor me, a novice columnist.
I plan to share Just Three Tips every month to share my best practices for various marketing channels and strategies. Why three? Three is my Enneagram and one of my favorite numbers. Also, symmetry, duh. But I also think it’s enough structure to keep the information shared here valuable, actionable, and easy to remember.
So, why am I here? My marketing career started by accident. I stumbled upon the realization that I could write for a living and not work in a newsroom. Thank God. I spent the better part of my nearly 15 years in Pittsburgh using my gift of gab to market everything from tiered network health insurance plans to LED lighting retrofits and a handful of cool softwares. And I’ve been working from home since March 16, 2020 at 1:34PM EDT exactly. At least, that sounds right.
ICYMI: this month’s issue is all about going green. Sure, I house all my files on my computer and treat my cell phone like a mid-century modern office. Seriously, it gets so hot. But I’m here to tell you that ‘going green’ doesn’t just mean turning your print pieces into PDFs or hosting events on Zoom.
